EYCC PROGRAMS

Program selection is based on the child’s grade level for the 2017-2018 school year.

Wildlife Adventurers (3rd-5th grade)
The Florida Everglades abounds with secrets and wonders! Campers spend action-packed and fun-filled days exploring fields, marshes and forest ecosystems discovering the hidden mysteries of the Everglades as a scientist. Campers journey into these ecosystems using a variety of scientific tools to identify different plants and animals and discover the adaptations that allow these organisms to survive in the south Florida environment.

Eco-Equestrian (3rd-8th grade)
Children need the chance to grow in a healthy, nurturing environment. Horsemanship provides a unique opportunity to develop skills such as responsibility, leadership, teamwork, compassionate assertiveness and self-reliance. Our equestrian program is filled with fun and excitement for the newest-beginner to the more advanced rider. The main focus will be HORSES -- daily lessons, trail rides and horse care. This will be an off-site morning adventure for the campers. Campers will be required to wear heeled shoes (such as boots, not flat-soled shoes) and long pants. Riding helmets will be provided. An additional camp fee of $200 is required.

Anglers (4th-5th grade)
Come cast a line with us! This fishing program provides valuable instruction regarding fish and their habitat, teaches various fishing techniques, and cultivates a new crop of responsible anglers. All aspects of fishing are covered, including fish identification and biology, basic boat navigation, and angling techniques. Jon boats with electric motors will be used to explore areas of our ponds not accessible for shoreline fishing. Campers gain an appreciation for the sport of fishing, as well as the knowledge required for ethical angling. The week will conclude with a fishing tournament and boat races!

Trail Blazers (4th-5th grade)
Come blaze a trail with us! The Trail Blazers program provides campers with an opportunity to explore and participate in an overnight wilderness camping experience. Campers learn and practice a variety of skills, such as basic knot tying, shelter building, orienteering, equipment preparation and canoeing skills. Camper’s canoe to their campsite where they learn to maintain a camp, practice fire safety and prepare their own meals. As nighttime falls, campers wrap up the day with wildlife viewing, storytelling, songs and laughter around the camp fire.

Seafarers (6th-8th grade)
Continue your fishing adventure on saltwater. Campers will experience kayak fishing, pier fishing and beach fishing. This program provides valuable instruction regarding saltwater fish and their habitats, teaches various fishing techniques, and cultivates a new crop of responsible anglers. All aspects of fishing are covered, including fish identification and biology, advanced boat navigation, and angling techniques. An additional camp fee or $100 is required.

Pathfinders (8th grade)
Become certified in hunter safety! Campers participate in the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Hunter Safety Certification program learning about outdoor ethics, wildlife conservation, habitats, wild game and hunting skills. Classes are led by a certified hunter safety instructor in a controlled environment. Pathfinders are instructed and supervised in the use of shotguns, muzzleloaders, .22 rifles and archery. Successful course completion awards campers the FWC Hunter Safety Certification Card.

Explorers (6th- 8th grade)
Two nights camping at Jonathan Dickinson State Park! Campers will develop outdoor living skills in this one of a kind environment, learning to make decisions in preparation for responsible minimum-impact wilderness camping. They will acquire the skills of orienteering, outdoor food preparation and cooking, knot tying, camp crafts and weather monitoring. The campers will gain an understanding of the impact of these activities on the environment and gain a conservation ethic while living comfortably in the great outdoors. Explorers will canoe the Loxahatchee River from Jonathan Dickinson State Park and camp for two nights at the youth campsite.

Mariners (7th-8th grade)
Kayak and snorkel in marine environments! Our Mariners program transports our oldest campers to a number of coastal locations for exploration of the marine environment. Through snorkeling Weeks they learn to identify the plants and animals unique to saltwater environments and observe their interrelationships. Water safety is the top priority of our certified instructors. Campers must be able to swim and provide their own snorkel equipment. An additional camp fee of $50 is required.

Rangers (7th-8th grade)
Perfect your shooting skills! Campers who have already completed the hunter safety course can participate in this advanced shooting sports program. Campers will spend their days enhancing their skills with shotguns, .22 rifles and bows and arrows. They will traverse our 3D target course, giving them the opportunity to shoot from various positions, heights and over obstacles using bows. (A pre-requisite for this program is the completion of the FWC Hunter Safety Program or Pathfinders if received during summer camp.)

EYCC Leadership Camp (9th-12th grade)
The EYCC provides a volunteer opportunity for high school students to assist with various tasks around the camp during the summer season. The Leadership Camp utilizes high school students to assist staff with camper activities and to help in the dining hall. All Leadership Campers will receive training about the programs we offer, how to interact with children, and the various roles of staff required for a residential camp. 80 Community Service hours are awarded for the two weeks of volunteer service to the camp. High School students must apply to participate in the EYCC Leadership Camp program. Download the Leadership Camper application from the panel on the right.

EYCC REGISTRATION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

The EYCC is a residential (sleep away) summer adventure camp. Our programs begin each week on Sunday and conclude Friday. All nine 3rd to 8th grade programs are offered each of the eight weeks starting June 10, 2018. Campers can be registered for multiple weeks of camp throughout the summer, but must go home over the weekend between camps to provide camp staff with their required time off.

Registration begins January 15, 2018. Spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Your camper packet will be mailed to you with your confirmation letter upon receipt of your registration form and payment.

Registration Procedures

  • Registration begins January 15, 2018.
  • Spaces are filled on a first come, first served bases. Camp program capacity is based on our camper to staff ratio and bed spaces available.
  • Registrations must be received three weeks prior to the requested summer camp week.
  • We do not have a registration fee.
  • You will need to provide the following to register your child:
    1. 2018 Summer Registration Form and this form signed indicating you have read our policies and procedures.
    2. Copy of your child’s last report card or a document showing current grade level ( a birth certificate is acceptable if unable to provide document indicating grade level)
    3. Full payment for camp week(s) and activity fees (if applicable)

Camp tuition

  • Camp tuition is $360 and the check should be made payable to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
  • Camp tuition includes meals, lodging, program materials, minor accident insurance (secondary policy only).
  • The following programs have an activity fee and the check for these fees should be made payable to the Fish and Wildlife Foundation of Florida:
    1. Eco-Equestrian for $200
    2. Seafarers for $100
    3. Mariners for $50

Confirmation

  • Confirmation packets will be mailed within a week of receiving your complete registration packet.
  • If you do not receive your packet within a week, please contact the camp office at 561-624-6929 or email Janice.kerber@myfwc.com.
  • Your confirmation packet will include the following:
    1. Confirmation Letter (receipt with tax exempt information)
    2. A Parent Authorization form (must be notarized) and medical history of camper
    3. Immunization Form
    4. A Medical Examination Form (must be completed by a physician within I year of camp attendance)
    5. Camp Waiver, photo release, permission to provide over-the-counter medications, basic waiver for camp
    6. Camper’s Code of Conduct
    7. Specific Program Waivers (if applicable)
  • These forms must be completed and brought to camp on the Sunday of your child’s summer camp week. Campers will not be admitted without all forms completed correctly. We do not use forms from prior years of attendance.

Refund policy

  • Full refunds are not available under any circumstances. We provide opportunities for you to visit the camp during Camp Orientation Sessions. If this is your child’s first time participating in a sleep-away camp, please attend one of our Camp Orientations before registering for camp.
  • A $50 fee per registered week is retained if the request for refund is received prior to June 1, 2018. All refunds requests after June1, 2018 will be subject to an automatic 50% refund only.
  • Refund requests after June 1, 2018 due to a family emergency or illness will be handled on a case by case basis. All medical requests for refund must be accompanied by supporting medical documentation.
  • All requests must be made in writing and must arrive no later than one week prior to your child’s first day of camp.
  • If your child does not show up on the first day of camp, and you have not notified the camp’s director one week prior to attendance, your rights to a refund will be forfeited.
  • Refunds are not made when campers are sent home for disciplinary reasons or if a camper or parent chooses to leave for reasons other than illness.

PARENTS...PLEASE NOTE

  • Registrations must be received no later than 3 weeks prior to start of a session.
  • Campers may register for multiple sessions of camp. (Mariners and Eco-equestrian will be limited to one week in order to meet the demands for these programs.)
  • Campers are grouped in cabins by age, gender and program availability.
  • Program selection is based on your child’s grade level for the 2016-2017 school year (current year).
  • Programs may be altered in cases of extreme heat or inclement weather.
  • E.Y.C.C. parents/guardians must furnish transportation to and from camp.
  • Check-in is 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Check-out is 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
